Celebrating its 55th Year in May of 2007, the Monadnock Chapter membership
includes organists and choir directors as well as people that just enjoy the king
of instruments, the pipe organ!
The Monadnock Chapter serves members in an area that generally borders
Claremont, NH to the North, Temple, NH to the East, Athol/Orange-Greenfield,
Mass to the South, and Brattleboro, Vt. to the West.
Message from the Dean
Welcome to the Website of the Monadnock Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
The Monadnock Chapter, for 55 years, has met the mission and purpose of the American Guild of
Organists:
“…to promote the organ in its historic and evolving roles, to encourage excellence in the performance of
organ and choral music, and to provide a forum for mutual support, inspiration, education, and
certification of Guild members.”
Churches and schools dot every town in the Southwestern part of New Hampshire, Eastern Vermont,
and North Central Massachusetts. The home of Keene State College, Franklin Pierce College, New
England College, and Northfield-Mt. Hermon Schools, offers a rich opportunity to promote our mission as
well.
The Monadnock Chapter exists to aid local organists and music directors in promoting organ and choral
music. Only in networking can we achieve our mutual success and celebrate the music that we all enjoy.
Meetings are held approximately 5 times a year. Additional social events may be held from time to time.
The chapter often may attend concerts or recitals together.
We invite you to attend all our meetings and to bring ideas and your interests and experiences that
together we may enjoy and promote the king of instruments. We look forward to good participation with
programs that will be inspiring and enjoyable. Your involvement will assure the success of these events.
The Keene Sentinel, on August 14, 2004, noted that Organists are a "dying breed." We all recognize that
few are training to take our places as we step down.
Our 56th Annual Meeting in May of 2008 will include a Collegiate Student Recital from one of New
England's upcoming student organists.
As the Monadnock Chapter moves into our 56th year, the opportunity to expand our membership and
contacts offers an exciting prospect. We look forward to enjoying the gift of music together.
Sincerely,
Jay Chandler, Dean
